Chinese telecommunications equipment manufacturer ZTE has partnered with operator China Unicom to announce the industry’s first fifth-generation (5G) multifunctional set-top box.
The device is made in a laconic black case. A special stand allows you to place the novelty in an upright position.
The solution combines the capabilities of a set-top box, gigabit network gateway and router. By connecting to a 5G cellular network, the device can provide a home with high-speed Internet access using Wi-Fi technology.
The novelty is equipped with a powerful processor with the ability to decode ultra-high definition video materials. The HDMI interface is used to connect to the TV panel. In addition, there are other connectors including USB.
Unfortunately, other technical details have not been disclosed yet. About when and at what price the set-top box will appear on the commercial market, nothing has been reported.
It should be noted that the number of users of 5G networks worldwide is growing rapidly. Their number doubled during the second quarter of 2020, reaching 137.7 million subscribers. This is approximately 1.5 percent of the global mobile communications market.
