The squabbles between Drillisch and Telefónica on the 5G roaming contract

Telecommunications newcomer Drillisch can now build its own infrastructure and become Germany’s fourth mobile operator, German website Focus Online reported.

The country’s new mobile operator, 1 & 1 Drillisch, has signed a contract with Telefónica / O2 for national roaming and mobile bistream access after
consideration by the European Commission (EC), which has requested Telefónica to improve its proposal.

The national roaming agreement is initially for five years and can be renewed twice. The final details of the contract are to be finalized by May, but the agreement that will
Drillisch access to the O2 network is required.

Drillisch must leverage its competitors’ networks to deliver services while it builds its own infrastructure, which was the terms of the 5G licenses issued in Germany in
during an extremely expensive and lengthy 5G spectrum auction in 2019.

This was done in order to introduce a fourth mobile operator to the German market, joining Deutsche Telekom, Vodafone and Telefónica / O2.

Auction

The 5G auction has been dragged out due to squabbles and legal attempts to cancel the regulator’s conditions: in addition to introducing a fourth operator, the Bundesnetzagentur (BNetzA) regulator has also allocated part of the spectrum for
creation of private networks by industry groups. Even after the end of the auction, the regulator had to settle the dispute between Drillisch and Telefónica.

Drillisch paid € 1.1 billion for its spectrum and then entered negotiations with three of its competitors on a national roaming contract, eventually settling on the firm
Telefónica / O2, with which it already had an agreement to create a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO).

However, this scheme, created in 2014, only covered the older generations of cellular communications – 2G, 3G, and 4G. The 5G approval allows Drillisch to become Germany’s fourth mobile operator.

The first domestic media server with advanced features

The first domestic media server with advanced features

JSC “NPO” Digital Television Systems “(as part of the innovation cluster” Technopolis GS “, Gusev, Kaliningrad region) won the competition of the Ministry of Industry and Trade for a state subsidy
for the development and organization of serial production of subscriber equipment for a multi-service digital platform for home wireless networks.

The project provides for the development and organization of serial production of devices that combine the functionality of a home media server, a smart home controller and a network router, in
several modifications. These devices will have advanced features and support all common content delivery standards (to mobile devices, TV receivers
based on the main platforms, SmartTV), provide support for mesh networks, software integration with smart home solutions, etc. The application of NPO TsTS JSC became the best of 16 successfully passed
scientific and technical assessment of the competition committee. In total, several dozen applications were submitted for the competition.

It is planned that the project will be implemented by June 30, 2025. According to the terms of the competition, the first device should be put into mass production in 2021. Products will be presented in countries
EurAsEC and far abroad.

“I am glad that the Ministry of Industry and Trade chooses to support not only projects aimed at solving niche specialized business problems, but also those that have the potential to reach millions
audience of users. This suggests that the state is increasingly turning towards the localization of large-scale production of electronics, and the domestic industry has every chance of becoming
a notable player in the global market. Our experience shows that Russian developments in the field of content consumption – both software and hardware – are quite competitive “, –
commented on the production director of GS Group Fedor Boyarkov.

According to the GS Group analytical center, at the end of 2020, the consumption of TV receivers in the world amounted to 230 million units. Market structure is changing rapidly: HD models are being replaced by Ultra HD
4K devices, internet connection becomes mandatory. However, a key market change is that telecom operators are rapidly developing their ecosystems, some of which
is built on the basis of a premium segment hybrid set-top box with the functionality of a smart home controller. The world market for such devices exceeds 10 million units per year, and the main drivers are
leading TV operators. For example, Sky Group, the world’s largest satellite operator, started developing the Sky Q family of devices back in 2016, resulting in the Sky Q Hub and Sky Broadband Hub.
The Russian market of receivers for Pay TV at the end of 2020 amounted to 4.5 million units. The development of the Russian receiver market as a whole reflects global trends: segments of simple TV set-top boxes
are shrinking, and conceptually new multifunctional devices are rapidly replacing them. In Russia, such devices are only developing, but under favorable circumstances, the volume of this segment
will be able to exceed 1 million units by 2025.

Operator with the fastest mobile Internet

According to the results of a study by IAA TelecomDaily, the average speed of mobile Internet in Russia was 24 Mbit / sec.

The fastest in October among the operators of the Quartet with the mobile Internet service was MegaFon. In terms of the average and maximum data transfer rate, the company outstripped the rest by two or more
times.

The average speed of MegaFon in Russia is approaching 40 Mbit / s, in St. Petersburg – over 43 Mbit / s. The second and third places are taken by MTS and VimpelCom. Average mobile Internet speed of these operators
exceeds 20 Mbps. Tele2 closes the four with a speed of 14.5 Mbit / s.

The rating was compiled using the Megabitus application developed by IAA TelecomDaily. The results include anonymized data obtained during October in more than 30 largest cities of the Russian Federation in
based on tens of thousands of measurements. One and the same subscriber could launch Megabitus at home, in the office, in a store, in the country, and also test the speed in Wi-Fi networks. The assessment was based on the achieved
data transfer rate (maximum, minimum, arithmetic mean), as well as other parameters described by GOST (coefficient of successful logins (successful attempts to establish
connections), login time (for 80% and 95% of attempts), failure rate, etc.).

The speed is fixed in more than 20 cellular networks (and in several dozen fixed ones), however, indicators are given only for the largest of them: MTS, MegaFon, VimpelCom (Beeline brand),
Tele2, Rostelecom, ER-Telecom, MGTS.

Research results:

1. Average data transfer rate (viewing content, surfing the sites)

According to this indicator, MegaFon (38.6 Mbps) is almost twice ahead of the following MTS (19.7 Mbps) and Vimpelcom (18.4 Mbps), Tele2 has 14.4 Mbps. / sec. Thus, the four largest
the country’s mobile networks provide an average speed of 24 Mbps, although three of them do not reach it.

2. Maximum data transfer rate (posting content from the subscriber)

The indicator was measured only for cellular networks; it is less significant than the average speed, but allows you to estimate the technical parameters of the network. MegaFon remained the undisputed leader – 229.5 Mbit / sec, then
– Vimpelcom (160.5 Mbps), MTS (94.1 Mbps) and Tele2 (88.4 Mbps).

The operator of communication solutions for business, Mango Telecom, has offered call tracking services to companies operating internationally and serving clients abroad.

The MANGO OFFICE marketing analytics platform now has the ability to use telephone numbers in more than 50 countries, previously only numbers of Russian cities were available on it.

Call tracking systems are used to measure the effectiveness of advertising. Call tracking matches phone calls to specific numbers with specific ad placements and allows you to accurately
to establish with which advertising the consumer has contacted before contacting the seller of goods or services. Call tracking is equally applicable for advertising in the press, on television and on radio, outdoor

your phone number is shown, a call to such a number uniquely identifies the user and makes it possible to restore the history of his interactions with advertising before visiting the site.

parameters – up to the size of checks and the number of repeat purchases, which will allow correlating not advertising and requests, but advertising and the proceeds obtained as a result of its placement.
