The Witcher: Monster Slayer on mobile is CD Projekt Red’s answer to Pokemon Go.
First announced in the summer of 2020, the augmented reality game is based in the world of The Witcher and will soon be available to play on iOS and Android.
Here’s everything you need to know about it.
What is The Witcher: Monster Slayer?
The Witcher: Monster Slayer has been created by dedicated mobile games developer Spokko – one of the CD Projekt family of studios.
Set long before the events in the award-winning RPG console and PC series, it puts you into the shoes of a witcher at a time when the job title was reasonably unheard of and rare.
Monsters are prevalent throughout the land and, in Pokemon Go style, you must travel the real world to find them. This time though, once found your job is to eliminate them.
The time of day and real-world weather conditions will be important, while potions and the like will help in your battles (as in The Witcher games).
The Witcher: Monster Slayer release date
While some Android phone owners have been able to test the game in beta form previously, The Witcher: Monster Slayer will be released in full for iOS and Android from Wednesday 21 July 2021.
Pre-registration is now open for Android – which you can do on Google Play here.
Apple iPhone owners will have to wait until the launch date to download the game from the App Store.
The Witcher: Monster Slayer screens and gameplay
As you can see from some of the screens released so far, The Witcher: Monster Slayer uses GPS tech to track your location. And, like other AR games of this type, a map shows the location of lmonsters, traders and other items or events close to you.
The game will feature story-driven quests as you embark on your adventure, plus trophies to collect from each monster as you slay it.
You can improve your weaponry and armour throughout the game, to help you take on more difficult monsters. While your witcher skills can be boosted as you progress. Potions could make a big difference to your success rate too.
